Still sicky

I spent all day in bed due to that damn chicken salad. I almost met my friend Shawn for coffee but my stomach was like "I don't think sooooo." I slept and watched TV until I met AJ for dinner. He was craving sushi unfortunately so I had a couple bites and then a little soup. I guess the silver lining is I probably dropped a pound or 2!! (We went to Sushi Nori on Diversey and Sheffield - really good sushi from what I had and great service)

Made a trip to the gym today, visited AJ at work since he had to be there all day and night. Then home to watch some Animal Planet 2 and apparently made me incredibly sick all night. Suuuuper fun. Thanks chicken salad from Mariano's (that's the main suspect).

Very weird day. We landed at 6am and I got home around 7:30ish. I stayed up for a little bit and then took an hour nap. I went to look at apartments with a realtor at noon. I applied for an apt in Andersonville, hopefully I get it! Then came back to my neighborhood to grab coffee and catch up on emails. I powered through til around 10 and then slept for 10 hours! Poor AJ had to work today but he made some good money and then got some sleep. Onto the weekend!

Last day

Sigh, our last day in paradise. We grabbed breakfast and laid by the pool and beach for a couple hours. Then packed and showered and made our way to the airport. Since had to check out at noon, we got to the airport at 1:30 for a 5pm flight. Blehhhh. But we sat and read in the check-in area since we couldn't head to the gate until 3pm. Boarded the plane (see below). It was pretty sweet and fancy inside. Then to San Salvador, where our arrival gate was our departure gate. Easy enough. Then to Mexico City. We landed around 10pm and had 3 hours til our next flight. But apparently going from one terminal to another requires leaving the airport and going back through security. So we had to wait in an immigration and customs line. Then spent almost 45 minutes figuring out exactly where to go. We ran around everywhere and finally found the aero tren to terminal 2. It was closed (it's midnight by now). Then we found a bus to Terminal 2 and it required $1. We had no cash so we told the driver we would pay him when we got there. We didn't of course and frantically looked for departures. Ran upstairs, went through security and then to the gate. Jesus!!! Got there about 15 minutes before boarding. Left on time at 1am and landed at 6am at O'Hare. Damn. So moral of the story is.......DON'T GO TO THE MEXICO CITY AIRPORT.

Day 5

Today was the besssst!!!!!! Pedro and his wife picked us up at 6am and we drove 3 hours to the Arenal volcano. First we stopped at Aroma Tico on our way there. Check out the breakfast below! Then onto La Fortuna Waterfall,, where we had to hike way down to the actual waterfall. The water is super clear and it's just incredibly gorgeous. Then hiked back up and moved onto Zip lining which included a tarzan swing! And it's just what you think, swinging in basically a 180 back and forth until a guy below starts to grab your leg or foot to slow you down. Then lunch at Pollo Fortuneno, I don't remember what we ate but it was one of the best meals we had there. After lunch, we drove to an ecological reserve where we saw butterflies, huge birds, sloths, monkeys, weird rodent little things, tons of ants, and a bunch of other animals! And finally to Eco Termales Hot Springs, which was almost like a 5 star resort and included dinner. You checked in and then walked to the bathroom and locker area which was like being at a country club. Then there were lamp lit paths through the trees to the hot springs. Right?! Super cool. We tried each pool and relaxed and then finally dinner and the very long drive home. An 18 hour day. Totally worth it.

Day 4

Laid by the pool this morning and then our buddy Pedro picked us up around 3. (So AJ had a customer one day who recommended Pedro to us to help with airport transportation and tours. And he turned out to be AWWWESOME) We drove an hour or so with him and his wife to Tamarindo where we had food and drinks at Lola's (named after Lola, a giant pig. See below). Saw some monkeys on the way and even a stray dog at the restaurant who wanted to be my new best friend. The restaurant is so cool because it's like it just dropped out of the sky onto the ground. Costa Rica is very adamant about preserving their land/environment and not interfering with it. There were lots of surfer dudes there too. We watched the sun set and then drove into the touristy part of Tamarindo and had more food and drinks at ANOTHER restaurant by the beach. Then a late night drive back to our hotel. Another day in paradise.
